Classifications of Noun

Classifications of Nouns

Everything around us is a noun.

Classifications:
  • Proper-It is the name of a person, place or a thing in particular. In proper nouns, the first letter is always in capital.
  • Common-It’s a name given to a group of similar things or persons.
  • Count-The things which can be counted 
  • Non-Count-The things that can't be counted
  • Abstract-It is the name of a quality, action or state of a noun or we can say the name of something we can’t touch, smell, see or taste.+
  • Concrete-noun which can be identified through one of the five senses (taste, touch, sight, hearing, smell)
  • Collective-A collective noun is a particular name given to the collection of persons/ things taken together.
  • Compound-noun that is made up of two or more words
  • Material- names of materials or substances out of which things are made. Ex: gold, iron, silver etc.
  • Gender-Specific-specifically to a male or a female
